The Camborne Band has achieved promotion at the British Open Spring Festival for a second year in a row. The band's trip to Blackpool to compete in the Senior Cup was also rewarded with a fourth place out of the twenty national competing bands. Next year the band will compete at the Grand Shield, in the Blackpool Winter Gardens, for a place at the 2015 British Open Championship. The preliminary date of the contest is Saturday 9th May 2015.
The rehearsals in the weeks leading up to the final week were taken by their resident conductor Kevin Mackenzie with professional conductor John Berryman taking over the baton for the final week and for the contest performance.
After the result John quoted: “With my father, grandfather and myself being playing members for the Camborne Band in the past, it is always special for me to come back to conduct the band of my roots. The band’s commitment and drive to give a top quality performance was epitomised by their new Principal Cornet, Demelza Sturges, and her young solo cornet colleagues who have an average age of only 20 years.”
