It is a busy time for the Camborne Band of late, with concerts, contests and even university recitals filling the calendar.
The band are in full preparation for the forthcoming West of England Bandsmen's Festival annually held in Molinnis Park, Bugle on 14th June. This years championship section testpiece is Edward Gregson's Connotations, first written for the National Championships of Great Britain in 1977 which saw Camborne Band achieve 4th place at the Royal Albert Hall. The band will also perform the contest March 'Contestor' by T.J. Powell.
On Wednesday 28th May the Band took to the stage of the Falmouth Princess Pavilions for a successful concert with comedian, Johnny Cowling. Johnny was as witty as ever, making the audience laugh all evening, whilst the band played a light and entertaining programme.
Featured soloists included the talented percussionists, Charlie Hodge & Justin Strike, playing Lizsteria and Principal Euphonium, John Hitchens, wowing the crowd with Napoli. Other music performed included The Contestor, Another Opening Another Show, The Dreaded Groove & Hook and The Smile.

Friday 30th May, saw the band's Second Euphonium player, Angela Retallack, perform a 45 minute recital for her end of year performance at Falmouth University. The band accompanied all eight pieces, which included Rule Brittania, Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms, Be My Love and the second movement from the Horovitz Euphonium Concerto. Angela’s performance was first class and did herself and the band proud.
Over the next three weeks the band will be continuing it's work for the West of England Bandsmen's Festival, as well as a concert with guest soloist James Fountain the following evening, celebrating 30 years of Trevada Music. More details about this exciting event can be found at trevadamusic.co.uk.
