The Camborne Band Annual Dinner and Awards Evening was held on Saturday 18th October 2014 at the Tehidy Park Golf Club and a large group of attendees were treated to an excellent three course meal in pleasant surroundings.
After the meal the Society President, Mr. David Roberts, summarised the bands achievements. He went on to present a cut glass whisky tumbler and life membership certificate to Mr Pat Farr for his long and valuable contribution to the band and society, including many years as treasurer and a committee member. David then presented Long Service Certificates to players Lee Trewhella and Matt Brown, both having completed over 10 years service as playing members.
Band Chairperson, Angela Retallack, read out a report and the awards from Musical Director Kevin Mackenzie who was unable to attend due to sickness. The award winners were:
Demelza Sturges, who won players player, which is voted for by the members of the band for someone who they think has stood out over the past 12 months.
Joanna Scott, who won most improved player. Joanna has continued to grow as the bands' solo horn player and has played consistently well over the past 12 months.
John Hichens, who won the best solo performance at a contest. This was for his performance on St Magnus at the area qualifiers earlier this year. John's playing was simply brilliant on this piece in particular.
Les Kneebone, who won the overall bandsman of the year. Les is an asset to any band. As always his commitment and dedication is much to be admired.
Musical Director Kevin Mackenzie Said "It has been a successful 12 months. Even with some changes in personnel, we have managed to qualify to the Grand Shield in Blackpool and win the West of England Bandsman's Festival again. There is much to look forward to next year including some new projects"
