Berryman to lead Camborne Torquay Challenge

Camborne Band has announced that it will be led by John Berryman at the forthcoming West of England Championships in Torquay next weekend.

Band Manager Nick Wills said: "We are very fortunate to have secured John's services. His contest record is outstanding and his appointment has given the band a real focus and drive ahead of a real battle for a London spot. There is a lot of hard work ahead but we’re up for the task."

Meanwhile, John added: "I have always had great respect for the band and I’m looking forward to leading them in Torquay. This year is a strong field but we have some great players and by the contest weekend will be in a position to put in a serious bid for the championship title."

The 20 time crowned West of England Champion will not be holding a open rehearsal of the test piece St Magnus by Kenneth Downie, but regular band supports are welcome in the band-room throughout the week.

Further to the West of England Championships next weekend, John will also lead the band again at the British Open Spring Festival at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool in late April. George Lloyd's English Heritage has been chosen as the test-piece and the band are looking for a second successive promotion to the Grand Shield.
