New President for Camborne Town Band Music Society

Camborne Town Band Music Society are delighted to announce that Susan Roberts will be the society's new President, taking over the reins from her father, David Roberts OBE.

"It is a huge honour to be invited to be President of the Camborne Town Band Music Society. I have loved the band since a child and of course have heard about it all my life. My father was President for many decades and my grandfather before him had a close association with Camborne Town Band and its Youth Band in the 1930s and beyond.  I was lucky enough to work with the then Camborne Junior Contesting Band in 2018 at the centenary of the end of World War One, and helped to organise their visit to the Western Front.

I have big shoes to fill, but (thanks to my father and grandfather) I've grown up knowing that the Camborne Town Band Music Society is something we can be very proud of  - in Camborne and across Cornwall. Core to both bands of course are the players and conductors, but the families and friends of the players and loyal supporters who attend concerts and cheer on the bands are an important part of the team. It's a winning team, of course. Here's to another century of glorious music from the Camborne Town Band Music Society."

British Open Spring Festival

On Saturday 10th May, the band competed in the Grand Shield at the British Open Spring Festival in Blackpool, where they played Edward Gregson's 'Dances and Arias'.

The band were placed 12th in a section of 20 bands, and off the number 1 draw!

The band were very pleased with their performance, and are keen to improve upon it moving forwards!

A massive thank you must go to our musical director, Gareth Churcher, for all his hard work and preparation.

Thank you also to our wonderful supporters who came along to our open rehearsal and the contest, and to all those who made the trip possible!

This marks our last trip to Blackpool, as the contest is moving to Birmingham for 2026!

We are now working hard in preparation for our next contest - the West of England Bandsmen's Festival - where we will be playing Philip Sparke's 'A Tale As Yet Untold'.
