Cornwall Symphony Chorus and Camborne Town Band join forces in concert on Saturday the 13th of August at 7.30pm. This will be the second collaboration between the band and the chorus and provide a wide ranging repertoire of music with something to suit all tastes.
The concert is being held in Redruth Methodist Church, the iconic Grade 11 building just above the railway station in the town, and the scene of many memorable musical events as well as almost two centuries of Christian worship.
The future of the building is uncertain and this concert will be happening just before some remedial works are carried out there. The rafters are sure to ring with the power of 150 voices, organ, band and other accompanists. It will be a nostalgic evening for anyone who has used the building over its lifetime and local support is highly encouraged at this event.
The Symphony Chorus, one of the largest choirs in the South West, go from strength to strength giving many local charities fundraising opportunities with retiring collections at the end of their concerts. Several thousand pounds have been raised over the last eight years in this way.
This concert is no exception as the collection will be in aid of funds to support Penhaligon’s Friends. Based in Redruth but working across the county, Penhaligon’s Friends is a Cornish charity that has been in existence for more than twenty years.
Providing vital emotional and practical help when children and young people experience bereavement, they rely entirely on donations and grants, with all the money raised in the Cornwall staying in the county for the benefit of bereaved children and their families.
Camborne Town Band, “Cornwall’s best and most famous band” are celebrating 175 years of brass band music this year and were placed 6th in the country at the national brass band championships last October, beating some high profile bands in the process. The choir and the band will perform some joint musical numbers as well as demonstrate their versatility in their own repertoires.
