Camborne Celebrate Area Success

On Saturday 14th March, Camborne Town Band were placed 2nd at the West of England Regional Championships with a solid performance of Peter Graham's 'The Torchbearer'. This means the band will be joining winners Flowers to represent the West of England at the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in London in October this year.

The band really enjoyed working with Ian Porthouse of Tredegar Town Band to deliver a performance to be proud of, and would like to officially thank Ian for working with the band and Kevin for preparing the piece.

Musical Director Kevin Mackenzie added: "Both myself and the band members have worked extremely hard over the past 12 months to build a strong unit and this hard work is now beginning to pay off. The hard work continues!"

"Everybody played their part in yesterdays result but special mention must go to Demelza Sturges on Principal Cornet for delivering a fantastic performance, John Hitchens on Solo Euphonium for his outstanding playing and Les Kneebone who showed real control under pressure on Soprano. Others include Sarah Matthews, Joanna Mackenzie, Joanna Scott, Simon Kendall, David Retallack & Tim Joslin, who performed excellently on his first contest back with the band. I'm extremely proud of them all and look forward to working hard throughout this busy year."

Congratulations once again to Flowers Band on their continued run of winning performances. Camborne would like to thank everyone for their kind comments and we really appreciate the support from our local bands.
