St Dennis Band, under their conductor Darren Hawken, started off the first part of the evening with a varied and entertaining program, opening in style with Walking With Heroes by Paul Lovett-Cooper. The next two items were in a traditional fashion with the march On the Quarterdeck and The Arcadians Overture. St Dennis Band then featured their trombone section in Down By The Riverslide which was well received. Peter Grahams Shine As The Light brought their well prepared program to a rousing finish with the audience extending their applause.
After the short interval, the Camborne Band took the stage under their conductor Kevin Mackenzie. Their program opened with Goff Richards arrangement of Strike Up the Band featuring Justin Strike on drum kit. The mood then changed with the beautiful Hymn for Diana, written about the life of Princess Diana. The main item of Camborne Band's program was Edward Gregson's Of Distant Memories which was chosen as the test piece for the 2013 National Finals in London. The band thoroughly enjoyed performing this piece and was well received.
The third and final part of the concert involved both bands joining forces to play four pieces. The march The President and the wonderful Canterbury Chorale were lead by St Dennis Band and Darren, followed by Calling Cornwall and the epic March from the Pines of Rome lead by Camborne Band and Kevin. As the final note ended, it was evident everyone that attended enjoyed the well balanced music performed throughout the evening.
The concert was a great success, with the audience already looking forward to another joint concert next year. Camborne Band would like to thank St Dennis Band for a very enjoyable evening of top class music making.
